Kevin hosting a 3D printing workshop

Besides doing 3D printing, I also love yapping about it, either in training sessions, making content with my student assistats, or showing stuff off to people. I have some of the content I've made with my team over the years below

The PowerPoint slides above are probably my most used materials, and one of my favorite trainings. It's always awesome to show folks how easy this stuff can be to get started with, and I've had a few folks over the years tell me after the training associated with the slides above they went out and got their own printer!

The PowerPoint Above is from a training I did for 3D printing, but with a focus on accessibility. Specifically, making tactile models, tactile maps, and devices to help with physical movements. For example, I once had a student with cebral palsy, and we were able to make zipper tags for them, that made it easier for them to open up their backpack and lunchbag. Rather than them having to grab and pinch the zipper to pull it open, which was a motion they were not fully comfortable with, they could hook their finger through the zipper tag, and pull the zipper open.

This video above (shout out the video editing crew that helped to record and edit this) goes over the tactile models I've made for students as well. In this case, the student was studying psychology, and could name off all the relevant parts of the brain and the nervous sysem, but they did not know what a lot of these things look like. For example, she knew what DNA was, but was not familiar with classic "double helix" shape of it. With our 3D printer, we were able to make a sample DNA strand and put it in her hands, so she have the same understanding and context as her piers. We did this as well with a neuron model (that we added braille to), and a TPU printed version of the brain

This day was fun! I took my students to our resin printing lab on campus, and showed the basic aspects of it, and how to do it safely. Always always always make sure to wear PPE when doing resin printing!
